I have just bought a drum set. mps-300 with an Alesis trigger IO. My first feeling was more latency than with the keyboard, so went to Asio control panel thinking I had changed it, but no, it wasn´t. So I start to check and test. I have a Scope Pro DSP soundcard that allows flexible routing and has tools to can measurements. Method 1: Went to reaper and send an audio metronome through stereo headphones output. - Conected L to souncard input (re-record it as reference) - R to one of the Alesis trigger inputs. - Inside Scope dsp card routed the L input to a dsp audio-midi trigger called Audio2note, and sent the midi to a dsp synth (bluesynth), and record the synth audio output. - Opened another bluesynth for the midi coming from the Alesis. Result: 1-DSP trigger+bluesynth comes 2ms later than the L reference (probably 1ms each) 2-Alesis+bluesynth comes 9ms later than the reference. Since both used bluesynth, and it´s supposed will need 1ms aprox, the Alesis Trigger IO delay is 8ms only to can get midi from the trigger input. To confirm that this was ok I tried method 2. Made a cable from the Midi din to jack, so record the midi through analog input just to see the waveform and look when the bits started to be sent. Result is the same, 7-9ms from the audio till the midi is out of the Alesis Box. Method three, google search, and found other guys that found the same (many were very happy telling they was playing at 1.5ms latency). As note, I did the first method some time ago with a SPD11 I sold (hell!) and the midi went out only 1-1.5ms after the audio. After some searching I found no much info.
