John Stamos seems to have fond memories of his days working on General Hospital. The 55-year-old actor was just 19-years-old when he played Blackie Parrish on the ABC soap in 1982, but 37 years later he does not forget his roots on the daytime drama. Stamos starred on General Hospital from 1982-84, playing Blackie the foster child of Rick and Lesley Webber (Chris Robinson, Denise Alexander). During his two-year stint in Port Charles, John Stamos even got to show off his musical chops by playing drums in the fictional band, Blackie and the Riff Raff. Sadly, Blackie ended up in jail after admitting to his role in the accidental death of his girlfriend, Lou (Danielle von Zerneck). Still, in happier times on General Hospital , John Stamos also co-starred with a future movie star: Demi Moore. Before appearing in Brat Pack flicks like St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night , Moore got her big break on the ABC soap in 1982, playing Jackie Templeton, a reporter who fell in love with Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers). Jackie’s sister, Laura, was played by Janine Turner, who would go on to star on Northern Exposure . Indeed, that early ’80s era of General Hospital produced several future superstars. John Stamos recently recalled his General Hospital era with a throwback photo that shows him posing between Janine Turner and Demi Moore. Stamos captioned the pic, which you can see below, with the hashtags “#Laura #Blackie #Jackie.” There have long been rumors that John Stamos was dating Demi Moore in the early ’80s when the two starred in General Hospital together. But in an interview on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live after-show, Stamos told host Andy Cohen those rumors were false. “There’s always been a rumor that Demi Moore and I had something but she was married at the time,” Stamos said. In fact, Stamos denied ever hooking up with anyone on the General Hospital set, explaining he has always been more of a “relationship guy.” While he has no romantic memories of his years on General Hospital , John Stamos still seems to Presley Ann/Getty John Stamos and Demi Moore on February 08, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California. Image Credit: Everett Collection John Stamos chronicles his incredible rise to fame in his memoir If You Would Have Told Me. The now 60-year-old actor dives into his days as Blackie Parrish on General Hospital, which jumpstarted his acting career. In his memoir, John recalls a moment on the set of the hit soap opera where he screamed at the Elizabeth Taylor. While filming a scene, John writes that he noticed someone “putzing around in the distance. I try to ignore it and go on, but the person is making a racket trying to set up what looks like a director’s chair. I hear a popping sound. What the hell?”John can’t let go of the distraction and voices his frustration in front of everyone. “For the first time, I really lose it on set and yell out, ‘Will someone get that old woman out of my eyeline!’ That old woman is Elizabeth Taylor. There she is, in all her lavender-eyed glory, poised in a director’s chair, sipping champagne,” the actor reveals.John Stamos on ‘General Hospital.’ (Everett Collection)Turns out, Elizabeth decided to visit the set of the soap to see Anthony Geary, who played Luke Spencer. Elizabeth had previously appeared on the show as the iconic Helena Cassidine.“Chris [Robinson] quickly tells me who she is, and I’m so embarrassed,” John continues in his memoir. “I can’t believe I lost my sh*t in front of Elizabeth Taylor. My dad is going to kill me. I mute my tantrum, apologize profusely, make some excuse about calling her old, then slither back to the set and continue the scene. This time, I cry my eyes out.”During his run on GH from 1982 to 1984, John earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Just a few years later, John would nab the life-changing role of Jesse Katsopolis on Full House and meet some of his lifelong friends, including Lori Loughlin, Dave Coulier, and the late Bob Saget. In Hollywood, everyone has to start somewhere. Some of the biggest stars today had humble beginnings acting in commercials, playing extras in low budget films, and even as struggling stand-up comedians. Yet many other stars who went on to be A-listers and Academy Award winners got their start in another genre famous for using developing actors: soap operas. General Hospital, All My Children, and so many others have launched the careers of marquee names like Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Demi Moore, and many others. 14 John Stamos The Full House star got his breakthrough on-camera role in General Hospital, one of the oldest soap operas in television history. Stamos played Blackie Parrish for two years and while he was on he worked with another future star, Demi Moore. 13 Brad Pitt It's hard to imagine the Fight Club and World War Z icon in a daytime television show, but it's true. Pitt's first speaking role in a project was a two-episode arc as a teen basketball star in Another World in 1987. Soon after he moved on to a famous TV drama, Dallas, for four episodes. 12 Sarah Michelle Gellar Before she was Buffy, before she was Daphne in Scooby-Doo, the accomplished television actress was Kendall Hart on All My Children. Gellar immediately made a name for herself thanks to the show, and it won her a daytime Emmy. She was only 18 years old. 11 Kathy Bates Bate's humble beginnings as an actor came in a four episode story arc in The Doctors. She played a character named Phyllis Gillette and according to Entertainment Weekly, her role was so small she went uncredited for two episodes. Obviously, Bates got the last laugh. She's won several Oscars, Golden Globes, and has been on everything from hit sitcoms to films that are ranked some of the highest by the American Film Institute. She was also on a few episodes of All My Children in 1983. 10 Leonardo DiCaprio DiCaprio rose through the ranks as a child actor on several television shows before becoming the star he is now. The most famous of his TV tenure was his supporting role on Growing Pains. He was also Mason Capwell on five episodes of Santa Barbara. The role earned him a Young Artist Award nomination. 9 Mark Hamill Those who lived through the 1970s Star Wars pandemonium remember that before Hamill was Luke Skywalker,Comments
