I was trying to install Quicktime 7.7 (without iTunes) from the Apple download webpage which I presume is the latest version. So using the Quicktime Installer, I removed Quicktime from my computer. It seemed to remove everything like the entire directory called Quicktime in my Program Files directory and the desktop icon. The Quicktime Installer interestingly did not remove itself. The Quicktime Installer program was still present on my computer. So I manually deleted it.So I returned to the Apple Quicktime Download webpage ( and this time selected Quicktime 7.7 with iTunes. This time it downloaded a program called iTunesSetup. I ran this program. Everything begins OK but a couple of minutes into the set up I got the same pop-up message as before: “There is a problem with the installer package.

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. I got a new itouch last week. Worked fine. Then went to update software to new OS (maybe Apple could have put this on a brand new one instead of older OS?!). Message said i needed Itunes 9.2. Went to update and got error "newer version of quicktime installed" and that i can't update since iTunes needs Quicktime. Tried several approaches, no luck. Deleted Itunes for a fresh start and then this wiped the Itouch clean which i had not at all intended. But, despite this exact same error message. I have been working on this and have used various uninstallers and searched the registry, cleaned temp folders, compressed and defragmented the hard drive. Downloaded Chrome, tried manually installing Itunes using Apple Software update, etc etc etc etc etc. Same message. Do i need to wipe the hard drive? Does anyone from Apple have any idea what to do? All message boards i have seen indicate that they do not. Windows XP Pro Posted on Jun 30, 2010 10:17 PM Posted on Jul 1, 2010 5:16 PM Message said i needed Itunes 9.2. That one has gotten complicated ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.) If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded. Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove". Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? (If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.) I'd like to get into buying audio books from iTunes. But, can I speed them up when playing? At "normal pace" of speaking, it will take way too long to get through a book (compared to how fast I can read one and how fast I'd like to listen to one). Thanks. Posted on Apr 25, 2010 11:57 AM Posted on Apr 25, 2010 12:46 PM If you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, you have a double speed option there (as well as a 0.5x option). iTunes doesn't have that feature, but if you're determined to do so, you could use QuickTime 7 Player. I personally find the lack of integration sufficiently annoying that I wouldn't dream of using QuickTime 7 Player. But, if you're determined to do it: If you don't have QuickTime 7 Player, get it. If you've got a pre Snow Leopard (pre 10.6) version of the OS, you can download it from . If you've got Snow Leopard, QuickTime X (mystifyingly) doesn't have AV controls, but you can get download QuickTime 7 Player for Snow Leopard here or find an article about finding it on your OS DVD here). And even then, to play in QuickTime 7, you have to control-click on the song in iTunes, select "Show in Finder", and then in Finder, control-click on the audiobook track, and select "Open With" > "QuickTime 7 Player". Once you have it open in QuickTime 7 Player, you can then go to "Window" > "Show A/VQuicktime download without itunes - kopjournal

Dec 26, 2006 12:43 PM in response to carletto50 SUCCESS!!!! After spending Christmas suffering through this iTunes install problem, I finally got it. Thought I'd share what I did to make it work, before Apple becomes an apple core. Besides they did bring us the "US Festival" and miniture devices so that we can enjoy our music anywhere. It seems the problem is in the install routine. It never really finishes. After trying all the stuff in the discussion pages, I figured my system was pretty Waked from an iTune point of view. First, I installed iTunes 6 + QT from Apple's download page. Make sure it runs okay. Second, using the control panel, uninstall iTunes and then QTime (may need admin rights to get everything removed). iTunes or QuickTime should not still be in the "Add or Remove Programs" list. If so, you may have to find other ways to get rid of the installed files. Next, install iTunes + QuickTime from Apples page. This worked for my system. Good luck and Rock on!
