#1 This update just showed up today. My iPhoto will not open up since I didn't get it upgraded in time after installing Yosemite. Here are two screen shots showing the update and what I get when I try to update it. chas_m Guest #2 My suggestion would be to enjoy Photos. It's good, and in El Capitan it will be fantastic. #3 If I drag the old iPhoto App to the trash, will the update prompt just go away? #4 Remove the iPhoto app from your Applications folder but don't delete it. Now go to your purchased items in the Mac App Store and download iPhoto. You'll have version 9.6.1. #5 Unless Apple have removed it! #6 Unless Apple have removed it! And if we are going to remove iPhoto in favour of Photos we might as well remove the iPhoto Library as well. chas_m Guest #7 No, the Photos Library IS the iPhoto Library. #8 No, the Photos Library IS the iPhoto Library. No chas-m, that is not so. The Photos library is a copy of the iPhoto library. As seen here. Last edited: Sep 30, 2015 #9 I have already helped a number of people who were getting short of space by advising them to delete their iPhoto Library, assuming they were happy using Photos exclusively. Perhaps you can too? As you can see from the file size I am only adding to Photos now. I only keep the iPhoto library because I can (don't need the space) and I occasionally refer back to iPhoto for comparisons sake. #10 Remove the iPhoto app from your Applications folder but don't delete it. Now go to your purchased items in the Mac App Store and download iPhoto. You'll have version 9.6.1. That worked. Thanks. #11 I'm running Mavericks on my iMac and contemplating moving to El Capitan. My iPhoto is 9.5.1. I am unable to bring iPhoto up to this latest release (says it's incompatible), yet elsewhere I'm told to upgrade to the latest iPhoto before pdating the OS. Suggestions as to how to overcome this Catch-22 please. #13 This link may, or again may not, clarify the situation regarding iPhoto and Photos libraries. It deals with merging or managing the two (or more) libraries. Might be worth a quick read? Sorry - didn't seem relevant to my query. I don't need to merge anything. I was concerned with how to get my iPhoto library up to a state to make a problem free move to El Capitan. #14 @sawdayIt was really in relation to Rod's points about separate libraries (iPhoto and Photos). Quickly create professional-quality movies. The first version of the software was released in October 1999 and bundled with the iMac DV. On April 28, 2000, Apple began allowing users to download iMovie free of charge from its website.[3] iMovie remained free until 2003, when it became part of the first iLife release, which was sold for $49. Apple continued to update and develop the existing iMovie software until the release of iLife '08 in 2007, when a new version, iMovie '08, was released. iMovie '08 was completely rewritten as a new application and introduced significant changes to the user interface.[4]iPhoto was the second application in iLife that began as a free application available for download from Apple's website. The first version of iPhoto was announced at the Macworld Conference & Expo January 3 2002, and released January 7 2002. It was billed as being the 'missing link' in photography. In addition to allowing users to import, organize, and perform basic edits on their photos, iPhoto also let users print photos in a variety of ways, including as a bound book.[5] Subsequent versions of iPhoto have added a number of features, including automatic organization by events,[4] faces (using facial recognition technology), and places.[6] iPhoto also includes a full-screen editing mode and a feature called 'Photocasting' (a way to share photos with others directly from within iPhoto).[7]iDVD was first announced on January 9, 2001. It was bundled with the Power Mac G4, the first Mac model with a SuperDrive that could read and write both CDs and DVDs. The first version of iDVD introduced a simple way to design customized DVDs with menus, backdrops, slideshows and home movies that could be played back on most DVD players.[8] iDVD was never released as a download. Instead, it was bundled with the first version of iLife, released in 2003.The remaining two applications in the iLife suite were first introduced as part of iLife '04 and iLife '06, respectively. Released in 2004, the first version of GarageBand was designed as an easy way for both beginner and advanced musicians to create and edit music on their computers. iWeb was introduced at the Macworld Conference & Expo on January 10, 2006 and was promoted as a way for Mac users to create their own professionally designed websites without having to know or write HTML or any other code. The last version of iWeb was released with iLife '11[7]Jan 07, 2013 I am trying to write a small program that will ftp in c or c++. Hard to understand exporting process and makes the user export with delight. There is also an additional feature where the photos that you add from the import are editable making sure that you don't have to save them again to run the editing process. There is more to this with increased stability in the importing and exporting options of the iPhoto 9 application. 3. Viewing experience at its bestThere were a lot of fundamental problems that were faced by the users at the beginning where they had to make sure that the photo to be in the correct viewing angle through manual adjustments, which was pretty painful to operate for many. Sometime the auto-rotate feature of the application wouldn't work making the users have a hard time selecting the correct orientation to view their pictures. All these were rectified in the new version of the iPhoto application with an enhanced software framework of the application. 4. Syncing Issues resolvedNow the biggest hassle the older versions of iPhoto faced was the usage of the application wasn't so well responding in syncing to social media platforms to share your pictures. The application would close down without any trace making the users have a hard time sync photos and upload to their Facebook wall or any other social media stream. The same was resolved with the new update of the iPhoto 9 and that made surer that there is more to make the system usable for uploading posts on social media.6. Minor Bug improvementsThere were minor bugs that were spread across the platform and that made the user experience a little patchy. But all those minor bugs of integrating the calendar and page number error were fixed as with the new rolled out update. The application is a full-fledged application that makes your photo viewing experience, one of a kind. Some of the features that added up to the impeccable usage of the application are listed below;1. User Interface that is so attractiveApple has always been the pioneer in designing application software as well as hardware that has improved reliability and credibility when it comes to using them. They have always tried to simplify the process and ensure that there are no hassles while you operate. The same goes for the iPhoto 9 application in the Mac Operating System platform with the user interface of the system tweaked to enable max performance and ensure that there are no hassles along the way. Iphoto Download For Mac 10.9.5The interactive option where you can delete unwanted photos by clicking and dragging them right into the trash, makes them look even more attractive in their stance. #1 I see that when I upgraded to Mavericks last year, I got the recent 'iMovie' app. And then after the update OSX left a folder called iMovie 9.0.9 in my hard drive. So I take it this is the older legacy version of iMovie. Since I had never used that version, could I just safely delete the folder and Trash it? The iMovie 9.0.9 does not appear in my Launchpad, only the newer 'iMovie' appears there. I'm afraid that if I (finally) upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.3, it will install the brand new Photo app, but leave like 3 legacy versions of iPhoto cluttering the HD. #2 I see that when I upgraded to Mavericks last year, I got the recent 'iMovie' app. And then after the update OSX left a folder called iMovie 9.0.9 in my hard drive. Oct 24, 2013 3:31 PM in response to roggers87 i still have the interface of the old iphotos. The only interface that changed was the full screen interface which was shown in the Keynote address and on some of the Apple web pages. If it says in the About iPhoto window 9.5 you're running 9.5. OT Oct 24, 2013 4:22 PM in response to blackersTT Go back to the App Store and try downloading 9.5 again. Oct 25, 2013 12:08 AM in response to blackersTT Do you have iPhoto inside a folder within your Applications folder? Oct 25, 2013 9:33 AM in response to blackersTT I've tried a couple of ways to reinstall iPhoto without success also. With iPhoto in a subfolder and in the root of the Applicaitons folder. Both failed. You'll need to contact support at the App Store. Oct 25, 2013 3:13 PM in response to blackersTT Warning: if you upgrade to V9.5 currently all 3rd party export plugins will be disabled. Oct 25, 2013 3:16 PM in response to Mark the Photographer Of course, they'll need to be updated by their developers. Oct 25, 2013 3:35 PM in response to Old Toad Good news all fixed :-)The iPhoto team at Apple had been watching this discussion, contacted me direct and talked me through a resolution.I deleted the old version, used Spotlight to locate the new app, which it turned out was sitting in the another folder in the mac, loaded it and moved it to the Applications folder. All working now. Thanks Old Toad for your responses.Thank you Sean @ Apple for all your assistance.Cheerio Oct 28, 2013 2:17 PM in response
