Spiritfarer with less grief Image credit: Alambik Studio Manor Lords is obviously this week's big survival-citybuilder game release, but I suspect Diluvian Winds is more my pace. It's a "relaxing management game" about building a town for anthropomorphic animals around the foot of a lighthouse, although exactly how relaxing will depend on your ability to prepare for tsunamis and other weather emergencies which can strike and destroy your buildings. It's out now.The 1.0 release trailer for Diluvian Winds.Watch on YouTubeThe art style - cute, 2D, hand-drawn animals and buildings on stilts from a side-on perspective - invites obvious comparisons to the wonderful Spiritfarer. There's a similar tend-and-befriend quality to the residents of your hamlet, too, who arrive with their own needs and skills and must be assigned efficiently to tasks like gathering wood or preparing meals. It seems like it's much more of a traditional town builder or colony sim than Spiritfarer, however. You can expand your hamlet underwater and into the sky with new buildings, must re-enforce those buildings against coming storms, and can eventually begin to explore and trade with neighbouring towns. Diluvian Winds has been in Steam Early Access for around a year, and previously had a demo available. This 1.0 release adds aerial buildings and the final chapters of its campaign. There's also a sandbox mode if you don't want the leading hand of a story to guide you, though. There simply isn't enough time in the world to play all the games I want, but Diluvian Winds looks like a cosy time. With a 30% launch discount, it'll currently cost you £11.19/€12.59/$12.59 on Steam.

About this gameBuild quaint island towns with curvy streets. Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts. Block by block. No goal. No real gameplay. Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty. That's it.Townscaper is an experimental passion project. More of a toy than a game. Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper's underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration.Data safetySafety starts with understanding how developers collect and share your data. Simple, yet you can get lost in it for an extended period of time. It'd be cool if you could add some music in a future update, and maybe add town residents that walk along the streets or do random things around the buildings you create. I only have one complaint, but I'm not sure it is anything you can fix. The camera movement triggers my vertigo from time to time. I understand this is out of your control, but I did want to put that out there for others with vertigo.157 people found this review helpfulThe artwork is beautiful and the simplicity of just tapping and building is wonderful. That being said, you are so incredibly limited. You can only use so much of the grid and you can only build so much on your given grid section. Things that would make this game a 5 star game: unlimited building blocks, unlimited grid, selectable grid type (round, square, randomized (the current default)), and a way to see your creation in first person view would be amazing as well.112 people found this review helpfulVery very cute and relaxing. The sounds are very good, and it's a very cozy game. My only complaints are that I wish you could switch between gound types. (Like changing pavements and maybe just laying out plain grass or gardens) and maybe a color wheel for the buildings. I love this game though, worth every penny. The only thing I would

Feed animals in buildings such as the cow barn. Tap the barn and then drag the animal feed at the bottom over any animal. You don’t have use spend coins to use animal feed. 4. Once animals have finished eating, they grant certain items. Example: Cows at the barn give milk when they finish eating. Tap milk cartons to collect them. 5. Expand your farm by opening closed farm areas with a signboard. Tap a signboard and use coins to open it. The higher your level, the more farm plots you will open. 6. Base-building games got a fantasy twist with the recently developed game, Kingdom and Castles. In this picturesque world filled with dangers such as dragons and Vikings, you need to grow a tiny hamlet into a city-kingdom.Doing this is full of challenges. There’s no telling when or even if an enemy will descend on your village before you have so much as a stick to shake at it. Do you slow progress by building defenses right away, or cross your fingers that Vikings are on lunch break while you’re building your granary? The choice is yours. An interesting mix of genresKingdoms and Castles is a unique game inspired by many different genres. If SimCity and Stronghold had a baby, this game would be that child. The game gives you a wealth of options in building and creating your world, as well as specific challenges that must be addressed in a real-time basis. It can be a little stressful trying to get your hamlet off the ground, but that’s part of the excitement and adventure of building up your little town.Different challenge levelsThe developers seem to understand that not everyone can be ready for Vikings the first second they take control of their Hamlet. At the beginning of the game you can set challenge difficulties, which allow you to decide whether Vikings will be breathing down your neck before your first grainery is built, or whether these problems crop up a little later in the game. This allows a wide mix of people to enjoy Kingdoms and Castles, no matter what their level of play ability might be.No tutorialsAlthough the game is relatively simple to play, you’ll want to turn to Wiki guides before playing. Not everything in the game is intuitive, and if you try to play just on what seems likely you’ll end up with starving people or the entire Hamlet on fire. An example of a not-so intuitive aspect of the game is the fire control. In order to reduce the speed at which fires spread, you need to have more wells. If you picture little villagers running to the wells to put out the fires however, you’re wrong---just the hole itself makes objects less flammable.Where you initially place your buildings also has a huge impact on the game. If you don’t place your first buildings close to needed resources, you’ll struggle the rest of the game. Once initial needs are met however, it doesn’t matter too much where new buildings are placed.8This is a very cute game, with a lot of possibilities for those who enjoy base-building. If you love medieval settings, this game will keep you entertained for hours as you watch your tiny hamlet grow into a big.
