D5 2 c4 c6 3 Nc3 e5!? Although seldom seen at top level nowadays, even Garry Kasparov had to face the aggressive Winawer counter-gambit when its modern-day guru, Pedrag Nikolic, played it against the then world champion at the 1992 Manila Olympiad. Other players who have played it include Johnny Hector and Alexander Morozevich. And in his latest Gambit Guide, GM Boris Alterman takes a look at the Winawer counter-gambit in a new two-part series.Staunton-Gambit-Dutch-defense (2 part series)GM Boris Alterman takes a look at the Staunton Gambit against the Dutch Defense with 1 d4 f5 2 e4!? - one of the most direct and provocative lines against the normally solid Dutch. The Staunton Gambit has a long history having being named after Howard Staunton, who first played it against Horwitz in 1847. Basically, it is a bold attempt from the very first moves to demonstrate that by giving away the central pawn White can show that Blacks first move is misguided because it exposes the king. In practical experience it scores well at club level where an accurate defence is awkward to play when White is unleashing a rampaging attack, with Black having to play carefully as any little slip can often lead to a miniatureTaimanov-Flick-Knife-Attack (3 part series)In the Bible, Ben-Oni is the name Rachel gives her son as she lays dying in childbirth, and means “child of my sorrow” in Hebrew. And never has an opening in chess been more aptly associated with sorrow than the Benoni - especially nowadays, with the Taimanov variation (or the so-called 'Flick-Knife Attack', as Dave Norwood graphically describes it in his 1994 book) almost proving to be the death knell for the Benoni. After 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 c5 3 d5 e6 4 Nc3 exd5 5 cxd5 d6 6 e4 g6 7 f4 Bg7 8 Bb5+, wild gambit play, sacrifices and all-out attack proves to be the order of the day in this aggressive line against the Benoni, and it features in a new series of Gambit Guide.Torre-Attack-Spassky-Gambit (2 part series)The Torre Attack is one of those openings that deserves more

But to supplement his meagre tournament prizes “The Black Death” played hundreds of simultaneous displays against amateurs. To cut through the simul fodder he deployed some outrageous openings - the most infamous being Blackburne’s Shilling Gambit (1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bc4 Nd4?!) , the maestro’s standard fee for a game. Even in the 21st century Blackburne’s trick is still racking up the victims . And in a one-off series of GM Boris Alterman’s Gambit Guide, our gambit guru takes a look at the Shilling Gambit - which, while not entirely sound, is a great surprise weapon for (online) blitz playSicilian-Moscow-variationA favorite of Gambit Guide is unquestionably the late great David Bronstein (1924-2006), who was nothing short of being a true chess genius. He was an independent thinker at the board, and our gambit guru, GM Boris Alterman has already showed in an earlier series from 2010 how his original ideas almost single-handedly re-invented the King's Indian Defence in the 1950s. Now, in a new series for 2011, he investigates two highly-respected (and typical) Bronstein gambits for rapid development in the Sicilian Moscow variation after 3. Bb5+. First up will be 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bb5+ Bd7 4. Bd7 Qd7 5. c4 Qg4?! 6. 0-0! followed by 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bb5+ Bd7 4. But it’s a provocative line with great surprise value; and after 3 e5 often leads to sharp gambit-play that can pack quite a punch to the unwary facing it. In his latest Gambit Guide series, GM Boris Alterman reviews the standing of the variation - and he even includes a look at how not to play it with the now infamous Becerra-Nakamura game recently in the USCL here on ICC, where the US Champion misplayed it to spectacularly lose in just 12 moves!Siesta-Variation (2 partDeath s Gambit (2025) PC
80The Halloween Gambit, also known as the Müller-Schulze Gambit or the Leipzig Gambit, is a highly tactical and aggressive chess opening that arises from the Two Knights Defense. This gambit is characterized by White sacrificing a knight for a rapid and aggressive attack, particularly against unprepared opponents. The Halloween Gambit goes as follows:1. e4 e52. Nf3 Nc63. Nc3 Nf64. Nxe5In this position, White offers the knight on e5 as a gambit, daring Black to capture it with the pawn. If Black accepts the gambit with 4…Nxe5, White continues with:5. d4 Nc66. d5White now has a strong pawn center and is looking to develop a powerful attack against Black’s exposed king. The Halloween Gambit leads to unbalanced positions and sharp tactical play. It can be a surprise weapon to catch opponents off guard, as it is not a commonly played gambit at the highest levels of chess. However, it’s important to note that the Halloween Gambit is considered highly speculative and is not a widely respected opening choice among strong players. Black can decline the gambit and opt for a more solid position, which can make it challenging for White to maintain a strong initiative. The Halloween Gambit is often seen as a fun and risky opening to play in casual or rapid games, but it is generally not recommended for serious or competitive chess. If you decide to play the Halloween Gambit, it’s essential to be well-prepared for various lines and to understand the resulting positions and tactics. It can catch opponents by surprise, but it’s not a foolproof opening and should be used with caution.. Softube Weiss crashing after low latency update 19 June 2024 Is anyone else experiencing this? I was very happy to receive the complimentary update mail from Softube a few days ago announcing the Weiss plugins will now also work on low latency. However after updating any projects where I have Weiss Gambit installed crash on OSX 13.0 on M1 Max MBP 16". There is no legacy download available on their site from a few months ago. Does anyone by any chance have a legacy installer for the Weiss plugins for OSX? Anything that is previous to the current build (2.5.86). Got stuck in the middle of a project now... sigh... Did you contact support about it? I'm pretty sure they can send you a 2.5.85 installer. '97 has reminded fans why the X-Men are so amazing. The show did that by putting Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men, front and center. Cyclops had some of the best lines and moments of the show, and fans noticed. She rose to prominence in the comics in the 1980s and peaked in the 1990s; her built-in drama - uncontrollable powers that made her unable to touch anyone - made her a wonderful, tragic character. Rogue has had a rich history, falling in love with Gambit and Magneto, leading X-Men and Avengers teams, learning to control her powers, and marrying Gambit. Rogue also plays a key role in the From the Ashes relaunch, starring in the new Uncanny X-Men series. Rogue was also a key character in X-Men: The Animated Series, the original Fox X-Men trilogy, and other X-Men adaptations. Her popularity has risen again thanks to X-Men '97's first season. She dealt with her feelings for Gambit and Magneto, witnessed the end of Genosha, lost Gambit, tried to get revenge, and had her own fall. Rogue is a hot topic again, taking her rightful place among Marvel's most popular characters. 18 Doctor Strange Has Become The MCU's Biggest Name First appearance in comics: Strange Tales (Vol. 1) #110, by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Stan Goldberg, and Terry Szenics Image via Marvel Doctor Strange debuted in the Silver Age, taking his place as one of.
